Speak Up for Climate Action in Ventura County

The time is now - effective Climate Action in Ventura County

Your voice is needed.

Now is the time to ensure Ventura County takes action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Strong climate action is required as the county also works to adapt to the impending effects of Climate Change.

The Ventura County General Plan document must include strong and effective climate action policies that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the county. We need your voice to make that happen.

As part of the General Plan Update Process (a general plan sets the foundation for ALL land-use decision-making, which includes policies to reduce GHG emissions) CFROG has been advocating for strong climate action and environmental justice policies. Next Tuesday, November 6 is and important hearing, which will set the tone for county staff & consultants - directing them to look ahead as they draft effective policies for climate action.  The policies are the bright light in a General Plan and all land-use decisions must be consistent with those policies.

Dear Supervisor/Commissioner, I am writing to ensure strong climate action is part of land use in Ventura County for the next 20 years - I urge you to direct staff to:

1. develop policies based on all feedback received from the public and focus groups during the outreach conducted over the last two years. This was important outreach work, and it is vital for all of this input be used as a foundation for proposed policies in next phase of the General Plan Update.

2. add a Climate “Element,” - this element will serve as the Climate Action Plan and clearly state the county’s rationale, show the required background/baseline data and specific policies that will be implemented to both reduce GHG emissions in the county and mitigate impacts of Climate Change.

2. Fill Every Seat For Climate Action: Attend the hearing on November 6 at 1:00 in the VC Board Hearing Room at the Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura. Note: The hearing is likely to last past 5:00pm. Park near the solar panels in the county lot.
