Phillps 66 wants to build a "rail spur" facility up in San Luis Obispo County so that oil trains from Canada and throughout the United States could transport oil to Nipomo (southern SLO County) for refining. If this project is allowed, each year over 12,000 oil train cars would snake through our communities, near our homes, roads, schools, beaches and farm land. CFROG opposes this dangerous and risky plan. We don't want oil trains coming through our County!
The Environmental Defense Center (EDC) appealed the initial approval of the project and the SLO Planning Commission upheld the appeal and denied the project. Then Phillips 66 filed an appeal, taking the project to the SLO County Board of Supervisors. That appeal hearing takes place on March 13.
The EDC represented Sierra Club, Surfrider Foundation, StandEarth, and Center for Biological Diversity in the initial appeal. CFROG vigorously supports the actions of EDC in opposing this dangerous polluting project.
