Public Hearing: Tell California & EPA to Protect Fillmore's Aquifer

Clean Water for Fillmore!    No Oil Field Waste Disposal in the Sespe!

Public Hearing: come tell state officials to put CLEAN WATER FOR FILLMORE first! The Fillmore water supply is too close to allow oil waste injection. No injection in the Sespe!

The CA Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) is holding a hearing on oil waste fluid disposal in the Sespe Basal Aquifer. This aquifer is just one mile from Fillmore’s only source of drinking water.

DOGGR regulates the underground injection of waste fluid from oil and gas drilling. Oil drilling creates a large volume of chemical laden waste fluid and the main disposal method is to inject waste into aquifers. The Sespe Aquifer is protected by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). DOGGR failed to protect the Sespe Aquifer and allowed an oil company to dump waste fluid there. When the failure was exposed, DOGGR did not make the company stop. Instead it is going through the process to make the aquifer exempt from the SDWA to allow the waste injection to continue. As a part of seeking this exemption, DOGGR is holding a public hearing in Ventura to receive public input.

HERE if information on the state's website regarding the exemption application and the hearing.

HERE Is a letter from CFROG, Los Padres ForestWatch, Keep Sespe Wild, Friends of the Santa Clara River, Food & Water Watch and Sierra Club (signed on after submittal) presented to the Fillmore City Council on October 11.

Join us to make a public comment and be heard–don’t put Fillmore's water at risk! NO oil field waste near our drinking water!
