To fulfill its recently strengthened mission to protect public health, safety, and the environment, the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) is undertaking a process to update public health and safety protections for communities near oil and gas production operations.
The rulemaking involves public input and will consider the best available science and data to inform new and strengthened protective requirements.
CalGEM is resuming community input meetings in an online format. The coronavirus outbreak halted regional meetings that began in February to help slow the spread of the illness.
Three more workshops — two in English, one in Spanish — will be facilitated online to ensure social distancing. These digital community events will begin with a brief introduction followed by the opportunity for public participants to have two minutes to express their comments on the proposed rulemaking. The workshops will be recorded.
Participants either can call in to the event or join an online conference. Note: The May 20 meeting is primarily for the Los Angeles region. The other two meetings are intended for a statewide audience.
