Public Meeting: Fillmore City Council - Sespe Aquifer Exemption Presentation

If this project is approved oil field waste injection will be allowed just one mile from the sole source of drinking water for the City of Fillmore.

Sespe_Santa_Paula_Fillmore.pngThe City Council of Fillmore will hear a presentation from the California Department of Conservation Regarding an application from an oil company to exempt the Sespe Aquifer from the Safe Drinking Water Act. If this exemption is approved the oil company will be able to inject oil field waste into the Sespe Aquifer and inject other compounds and chemicals in order to enhance oil and gas production.

The application must be approved by the State of California and the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There is also a public hearing in Ventura on October 24 where the state is officially receiving public input about the aquifer exemption. The decision will be made later this year following the public comment period.
